Canadian websitePositive Singles is the most popular STD-related dating site in the United States, but what is its profile like in Canada? If you are a Canadian living with either HSV or HIV, is there a better dating site option that Canadians gravitate towards?

To find out, I decided to compare Positive Singles to other prominent STD-related dating sites through my ‘test search’ method. To find out the nearest competition, I searched for ‘hiv dating sites’ and ‘herpes dating sites’ in Google.ca, then took the domain names of all first page results and entered them into Alexa.com.

If you’re not familiar with Alexa.com, it is a site that gives traffic rankings for all websites online. The lower the number the site is given, the more traffic it receives, so sites like Google.com and Youtube.com are habitually somewhere in the #1 to #5 spots. Joe Blow’s 3-page website that was built yesterday, on the other hand, would be in the double-digit millions.

Here is what I found searching ‘hiv dating sites’ and ‘herpes dating sites’ and retrieving the Alexa rankings:

HIV dating sites:

positivesingles.com: Alexa rank = 50,803

hivpassions.com: Alexa rank = 1,180,072

positivesdating.com: Alexa rank = 533, 984

hivpoz.net: Alexa rank = 1,677,461

pozmatch.com: Alexa rank = 269,441

hivandsingle.com: Alexa rank = 2,269,913

Herpes dating sites:

positivesingles.com: Alexa rank = 50,803

mpwh.net: Alexa rank = 187,800

herpespassions.com: Alexa rank = 3,398,471

h-date.com: Alexa rank = 447,913

So, after Positive Singles, the HIV site with the most traffic is PozMatch.com, and the herpes site with the most traffic is MPwH.net.

Next, I decided to choose a Canadian province to use as a test subject. I thought Ontario or Quebec would be a little boringly obvious, so I went with the third largest province in terms of population, British Columbia (conversely, a province too small would yield little results and not tell much).

From here, I decided I would see how well all 4 groups in basic search were represented, so ‘women seeking men’, ‘men seeking men’, etc. With Positive Singles, because it is an all around STD site, I made note of both HSV-2 (because it’s the most common form of HSV on these dating sites) and HIV members within these 4 searches. In MPwH, I made note of those members just living with HSV-2, and in PozMatch, just those members living with HIV.

Here are the search results I got from Positive Singles:

Men seeking women:

HSV2 –344

HIV –48

Women seeking men:

HSV2 –360

HIV –35

Men seeking men:

HSV2 –27

HIV –261

Women seeking women:

HSV2 –29

HIV –4

Now, here were the results I got from my British Columbia search for HSV-2 within MPwH.net:

Men seeking women, HSV2:90

Women seeking men, HSV2:71

Men seeking men, HSV2:0

Women seeking women, HSV2:1

Here are the results I got from my British Columbia search for HIV in PozMatch.com:

Men seeking women, HIV:16

Women seeking men, HIV:9

Men seeking men, HIV:24

Women seeking women, HIV:3

SUMMARY:

Here are some key points from the results:

-There are nearly 4 times more men living with HSV-2 seeking women on Positive Singles than on MPwH (344 to 90 profiles)

-There are more than 5 times more women living with HSV-2 seeking men on Positive Singles than on MPwH (360 to 71 profiles)

-There are more than 10 times more men living with HIV seeking men on Positive Singles than on PozMatch.com (261 to 24 profiles)

-There are surprisingly very low numbers of women seeking women on all sites, though in the case of HSV-2 there are nearly 30 times more profiles on Positive Singles than on MPwH (29 to 1)

So, this test certainly indicates that Positive Singles is the most prominent STD-related dating site in Canada. The good thing about all these sites, however, is that they are free to join, so you can do your own ‘test search’ wherever you are to see if your city or province yields similar results.
