One of the most common concerns about all but the most popular dating sites is ‘how much activity is on it’? This article will delve a little deeper into this question for Positive Singles and determine if, and where, the site has reasonable activity.

To help determine this, I used – as I have for all my other ‘test’ experiments – the state of Colorado. As a medium-sized state that is socially and politically diverse (a 2008 election ‘swing’ state), it suits my needs as an ‘Everystate’.

I did 8 different searches within the state of Colorado, taking the 4 most basic search options (men seeking women, women seeking men, men seeking men, women seeking women), and for each of these search options looking for the 2 most common conditions on Positive Singles, HIV and HSV-2.

Please note that a downside of Positive Singles is that the ‘last logged in’ date for members cannot be seen without an upgraded (Gold) membership. That is a key reason why I wanted to do this little experiment on this site.

For each of my 8 categories I took a sample of the first 20 profiles rather than every single one; the exception is ‘women seeking women’ with HIV, as there were only 10 of those in total.

Key Observations:

-100% of men seeking women with HSV2 and women seeking men with HSV2 had logged in within the last 3 days. However, only 5% of gay men seeking men with HSV2 had logged in within the last month.

-Only 20% of men seeking men with HIV had logged in within 3 days, though 100% had logged in within 2 weeks.

-Only 5% of women seeking women with HSV2 had logged in within 2 weeks.

-100% of women seeking women with HIV had not logged in within the last month.

So, lesbian women in general are not going to find a great deal of activity on Positive Singles, while heterosexual men and women with HSV-2 will find the most.

Since HIV is less common among heterosexuals than gay men in particular, the activity among heterosexuals with HIV is middling. Conversely, since HSV-2 is less common among gay men on Positive Singles, many of the gay members who have it don’t utilize the site a great deal.

So, some will claim that there is very little activity on Positive Singles while others will claim that there is a great deal – as this study indicates, it all depends on what you are seeking and with whom.
