Positive Singles is rapidly gaining a reputation as the most active STD-related dating site online, but what does it have to offer if you are not necessarily looking to date? Is it useful if you just want to make friends, or gain support after your diagnosis? Is there any help in these regards if you are not willing or able to upgrade to a paid membership?

One of the things that surprised me about Positive Singles is how much you can actually get out of it with a free membership only. There are several ways to communicate to others in Positive Singles beyond sending emails to other members, and I’m going to touch on them here.

BLOGS:

One of the unique things about Positive Singles that I haven’t really seen on other dating sites is that all members can create and respond to others’ blogs. These blogs are not too sophisticated, but do allow you to share thoughts and information with all other members. Whether you just want to vent about a bad day, or rally other members to donate to a worthy herpes or HIV cause, you are able to do it in the blogs section.

The blogs section on Positive Singles is quite popular; as of this writing there are over 13,000 blogs with over 100,000 total blog posts in this section.

To access Positive Singles’ blogs, you just need to log in, and go to the link on the left called ‘Largest STD Blogs’ or the ‘Blogs’ button up top. The ‘post my own blog’ link is then on the right.

FORUMS:

The forums, like the blogs, are accessible to all. This means that as a free or paid member you can both comment on existing threads or start your own. The only difference between free and paid here is that as a free member you must wait 24 hours for any forum post to be posted.

The forums always have some activity, but not as much as the blogs. In order to access the forums, just go to the ‘STD forums’ link on the left, or the ‘Forums’ button up top.

EXPERT ADVICE:

If you are struggling with your diagnosis, or going through a severe depression, there is a handy list of support centers on Positive Singles as well. These apply to members from Australia, Brazil, Canada, the UK, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Links to relevant websites that provide support for those with HIV, herpes and other STD’s are present for each of these regions.

If you have a paid membership, you also have access to an STD counselor, either through live chat (Monday to Thursday, 10-12am), or via email.

OTHER WAYS TO BE INTERACTIVE ON POSITIVE SINGLES:

There are other ways to interact on Positive Singles, which some people find useful as a method of dealing with their diagnosis. Certain activities will also get you either a cash reward or free month’s membership to boot!

For example, proposing a quality suggestion to help improve Positive Singles can yield a $100 reward. Sharing dating advice or a unique safety tip with the site can get you a free month’s membership, as can reporting 5 ‘veritable scammers’.

For a full list of things you can do to become more interactive with Positive Singles, go to your ‘My Account’ (button up top after you log in), and scroll down to ‘Tools and Settings’ and the ‘Earn Gold Membership’ link.

FINALLY…

Of course you’re always going to get a little bit more out of a dating site when you upgrade your membership, and with Positive Singles that includes access to live chat, which tends to have a healthy presence at most times. A paid membership also allows you to access the hundreds of articles in the ‘Dating Advice & Safety Tips’ section, which contains some interesting reading particularly if you’re new to online dating or have been out of the saddle for a while.

Hope this has helped you get the most out of Positive Singles…have fun out there!
