If you’re thinking of joining Positive Singles, but are unsure if you’re likely to find a match based on what you’re living with, then this little investigation may be of interest.

In it, I will look at who is most likely to use Positive Singles, and what conditions are most represented if you are a:

-Man looking for a woman

-Woman looking for a man

-Man looking for a man

-Woman looking for a woman

Technically, Positive Singles can be used for a variety of diseases, including HIV, HSV-1 and HSV-2, HPV, Chlamydia, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. Not all of these conditions are represented equally, however, and finding a match with some may be a little difficult unless you are in a large city.

My Positive Singles ‘Test Search’

To get a sense of this, I did some test searches on Positive Singles within Colorado state. I chose Colorado because it is average sized (22nd in population among the states), yet still has a fairly wide range of people. I did four separate searches based on sexual preference, and took the first 100 profiles for each as a sample (except ‘women seeking women’, where I took 80 profiles, as there were less than 100 matches total).

Here’s what these searches yielded:

Men seeking women (all ages):

  • HIV: 6
  • HSV-2: 68
  • HSV-1: 5
  • HPV: 9
  • HEPC:
  • HEPB:
  • CHLAMYDIA:
  • HSV-2 & HSV-1: 6
  • HERPES (UNSURE WHICH TYPE): 2
  • NOT LISTED: 1

Women seeking men (all ages):

  • HIV: 4
  • HSV2: 61
  • HSV1: 6
  • HPV: 4
  • HEPC: 1
  • HEPB: 1
  • CHLAMYDIA:
  • HSV-2 & HSV-1: 16
  • HERPES (UNSURE WHICH TYPE): 5
  • NOT LISTED: 2

Men seeking men (all ages):

  • HIV: 94
  • HSV2: 3
  • HSV1: 2
  • HPV: 1
  • HEPC:
  • HEPB:
  • CHLAMYDIA:
  • HSV-2 & HSV-1:
  • HERPES (UNSURE WHICH TYPE):
  • NOT LISTED:

Women seeking women (all ages):

  • HIV: 11
  • HSV2: 29
  • HSV1: 4
  • HPV: 7
  • HEPC: 1
  • HEPB:
  • CHLAMYDIA: 2
  • HSV-2 & HSV-1: 7
  • HERPES (UNSURE WHICH TYPE):
  • NOT LISTED: 19

Here are some noticeable results from these searches:

-Heterosexual men and women are living with and seeking HSV2-infected partners, and in almost equal measure.

-Homosexual men are almost exclusively living with HIV, and seeking same.

-Homosexual women are primarily living with HSV2, though this group was the toughest to gauge because nearly 25% (19 of 80) did not list their condition.

-Within all groups, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Chlamydia are nearly unrepresented.

-Within all groups, HPV and HSV-1 (oral herpes) have small representation. For both homosexual and heterosexual women, more are living with both HSV-1 and HSV-2 (genital herpes), than with just HSV-1 alone.

Hopefully this sheds some light on which conditions are most and least represented on Positive Singles. Clearly, a HepB or HepC infected person may not feel it worth their while to pay for a membership to PS, though signing up for free and looking through your own city or state may yield some luck.
